NorthBay’s On-Campus Residential School Year Program
NorthBay teaches students language arts, math, science and social studies as we challenge students to recognize how their actions affect their futures, their communities and the environment. We have developed a number of programs to accomplish these goals.
Our on-camp program is designed as a 5 day 4 night residential outdoor education program where students learn Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies while they conduct authentic investigations of environmental issues.
The NorthBay program uses authentic environmental issue investigation to teach common core language arts and math, and next generation science.
Our guiding questions are:
1) How do your actions affect your future?
2) How do your actions affect your community?
3) How do your actions affect the environment? Each day has a science skill and character/environmental theme that help us guide students to answers to these questions.
Students are in 2 classes each day. One in the morning after breakfast till lunch (9-12) and a second in the afternoon after lunch until activity time (1-3:30). Students conduct authentic investigations during class and use language arts, math, science and social studies knowledge and skills to complete each investigation.
Each afternoon is filled with more learning opportunities on our adventure elements. Students overcome their fears by scaling the indoor climbing wall or by flying through the air on our giant swing. After dinner, residential campers partake in one of NorthBay’s most unique environmental and character education components – NorthBay Live! NorthBay Live incorporates live performances and cutting edge media to deliver a message that stresses that there is power and responsibility in our individual choices. Students have a blast at NorthBay Live and the coupling of our day-time education with the evening program makes for an education experience that cannot be matched.
